«Mishima (Bob’s Burgers Arrangement)» is a score in «The Plight Before Christmas.» It is a cover of an arrangement originally performed by Phillip Glass, which he performs again for the episode.

It was released as a single on August 4, 2023.

Release

On July 26, 2023, Philip Glass announced that the score will be released digitally on August 4.[1] It was released as a single, almost a year after «The Plight Before Christmas» premiered.

Description

The score is the closing act that Ms. Merkin‘s sixth-grade music class—that Miss Bisselbender substitutes for—performs for Wagstaff‘s xylophone musical.

Because an inexperienced Rachel has to conduct the class, the class’s previous performances were poor. Gene comes up with an idea to remove any unneeded bars from the xylophones, making it easier to play. When the class finishes, they receive a standing ovation. The song plays as Louise reads her «What’s Around the Tree» poem and as the episode ends.

The score is specifically a cover of «Mishima / Closing,» as it is part of an album containing an arrangement of a similar name titled «Mishima / Opening.» The cover is about a minute longer than the original. The most significant difference is the use of xylophones for the cover. Creator Loren Bouchard describes it as having «mallet percussion … and also strings and just a touch of choir.»
