Director Stephen Kidd deconstructs the duality of our thoughts and our clothes for ANEST COLLECTIVE AW22
We all hide another side. Even as we take part in the most regular of actions, our thoughts are unknowable and unpredictable. Director Stephen Kidd, a long-time collaborator of Peter Lindbergh, seeks to unpack this in his mind-inspecting campaign film for Shanghai- and Milan-based fashion label ANEST COLLECTIVE and its AW22 collection.
In black and white, we follow the linear routines of two individuals against the metropolitan backdrop of Paris’ Cité des Sciences et de L’Industrie. Scenes with which we are all diurnally familiar – escalators, corridors, concrete – are intercut with the abstract and the dream-like. Otherworldly landscapes, a race track from above, melting colour forms.
Speaking on the film’s narrative, Kidd explained “We were trying to address the concept of the ‘dual lives’ we all live. We live reality, but then there’s also what goes on in our heads. The clothes have aspects of this, in that they are architectural, but also full of inspiration.”
