Break’in Through

As the tide shifts, putting breakdance under the spotlight, we meet the French teenagers pushing themselves and the boundaries of movement for short documentary Break’in Through. Created for Reebok Europe and directed by Cyprien Clément-Delmas, the film follows Toulouse-based youth breakdance crew the Breakin Kids in battle to protect their title – under founder, mentor and multiple breaking world champion Abdel Chouari – centering the school as a space for belonging, inspiring the young dancers through self-expression, hardship and passion, with the constant and authentic support of Reebok Europe.

Travelling to the Breakin School in Toulouse ahead of the shoot, Clément-Delmas spent some quality time with Abdel and the kids, observing their training, group dynamics, and daily routines. Engaging with the kids on an individual basis, to gain understanding of their dreams, memories, habits, and flow, Break’in Through becomes a close reflection of the troupe and the ambitions that unify them, balancing an intimate portrait of the kids with the intensity of their art.

Documenting Abdel’s role in training the kids to be world-class dancers while preparing them to be responsible adults, the film traces his immeasurable influence on their lives during a transitional period between adolescence and adulthood. Translating the electric atmosphere of the competition and the emotional rollercoaster they go on together, Clément-Delmas captures these world champion kids at a pivotal moment in French breakdance history, communicating the interplay of pressure and perseverance as they find their path in life through movement.

Breakin Kids, Abdel Chouari and Reebok Europe kicked off their partnership in 2022. The brand has supported the project by supporting the renewal of the Toulouse school, their participation in global projects, and giving them a platform through products and donations.
